Many people I work with don’t drink enough clean water. Often, they believe tea, juice, or coffee “counts” — but while these drinks contain water, they don’t replace the pure hydration your body truly needs. Let’s explore why water matters so much, how to drink it right, and how small changes can make a big difference.


Your body runs on water

Our body is made up mostly of water. Every cell, tissue, and organ depends on it. Water keeps your blood and lymph flowing — these fluids carry nutrients to your cells and clear away toxins.


Without enough water, even the best diet or supplements won’t work as well — because they can’t get where they’re needed.

How (and when) to drink water for health 

✔ Avoid cold water, especially before or with meals. Drinking cold water can cause spasms in your gastrointestinal tract, making digestion harder. Instead, aim for room temperature or warm water — this is gentler on your system. 

✔ Keep water and food separate. Try not to drink large amounts with meals. No more than 150 ml of liquid is best during or immediately after eating — just enough to help swallow food, rinse your mouth, or take supplements. 

✔ Wait before reaching for tea or coffee. Avoid tea and coffee for at least 1.5 hours after meals, as they can reduce mineral absorption from your food. 

 

Water quality matters 

The quality of the water you drink affects your health. 

  • Structured water (such as meltwater) is closest in form to the fluid inside your cells. It supports metabolism and cellular health more effectively than ordinary water. 

  • Purified or bottled water (like reverse osmosis water) is clean but lacks this beneficial structure. 


You can easily improve your water: 

  • Add a pinch of Himalayan pink salt 

  • squeeze some lemon or grapefruit juice 

  • Drop in a few fresh mint leaves 

  • Include some lightly crushed or defrosted berries 

💡 Avoid adding sugar or honey — they can spike insulin and don’t support hydration.
